We spent a week at the house, we are a family with 5 people. From the moment of arrival to departure have only joys. Upon arriving we noticed the cleaning and care to the smallest detail, the rooms, the bathroom, the kitchen, the room, the heating! Everything worked well and the house is very well equipped with all the stuff needed to provide adequate comfort. The owner intend to make the house in the best condition and he certainly does it. The location is great, next to the Golden Gate Park, which alone guarantees several days of fun and culture. But still rented a car at the rental agency suggested, 4 blocks from the house, and had a good time on the vicinity of San Francisco. For the house I give full marks and for the owner I say that their work cannot be quantified with a note, just say it's amazing!
I have stayed at many VRBO locations around the globe. I have never felt so much as though I was in my own home with everything I could need (think seasonings, oil, extra food supplies, bathroom necessities) available, including a ThermoScan ear thermometer when one of our group came down with flu! How wonderful to have a decorated Christmas tree waiting to add to our Christmas Eve party. The proximity to the park is WONDERFUL and so easy to take bus downtown or to the beach. Don't know if Rob had anything to do with the beautiful weather the entire week, but I wouldn't be surprised. We would come back in a heartbeat. Rob is great to work with and answer any questions.
Loved our stay at this beautiful, comfortable and all-encompassing house. It’s clean, well-kept and has good supplies with perfect instructions for everything. Rob is an excellent guide who answered all the questions promptly. Parking is easy which is shared with a neighbor who is also very nice. Would love to stay again.
Traveled to SF to visit family and friends. The Duck's Nest was perfect for us for our adolescent kids. The flat comes as advertised and Rob made it easy to find our way around the place and make it a home away from home. He was truly invested in making our trip as nice as it could be! There is a lot to do in Golden Gate Park, and the neighborhood around the flat is safe and easy to navigate. Lots of great little places nearby and a full grocery within a two or three minute walk. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Thank you, thank you Rob for opening your beautiful home to us! My family and I had the most wonderful time in San Francisco during Fleet Week. For all of you out there looking for a fabulous place to stay while enjoying San Francisco, look no further. This is it! The house is so lovely, comfortable, and easy to make yourself at home in. Rob has thought of everything...the kitchen is fully stocked and easy to cook in. If you need condiments and spices, he has them. If you forget you toothbrush, he's got one for you. The house is one block from Golden Gate Park which is a wonderful place to walk in and explore. There are great places to eat nearby. Rob has a list of restaurants he recommends. When you are exhausted from exploring all day, Rob has a great selection of DVDs that have a San Francisco theme to them. Every room is comfortable and inviting. Even the neighbors are nice! The price is so reasonable for what you get. I highly recommend it!!!!
So many good things to say - location is great - easy access to all parts of the City and GG Park. The home is well stocked - great TV, beds, kitchen, fridge, living and dining - laundry and an wonderful garage for a small car. This place is so comfortable - we brought our picnic lunch back to the house three out of four days. We found ourselves planning the day so that we could get back to the house in the mid afternoon. And the neighborhood - quiet, friendly, away from traffic - easy walk to restaurants and maybe best of all - Safeway groceries are one block close. No - best of all - the owners are encouraging, helpful, and very hospitable. A great stay! Fond memories - we will not forget!
Family of four from the Midwest visiting for four nights. Kids first visit to Bay Area, so we need someplace convenient to see a variety of things...the Duck's Nest fit the bill perfectly! Yes, the location is great to experience the 'island' within the city that is Golden Gate Park (Museums, Conservatory, Japanese Gardens were highlights)...yes, it was convenient to have a grocery and a bus stop right around the corner (take the #5 downtown to catch the trolley cars)...and yes, the Nest was comfortable and had every amenity that we needed (including off-street parking, but if you're the nervous type and have a car larger than our rental Malibu, you might want to leave it at the curb!)...so yes, the place is great, but let's be honest...the best part about the Duck's Nest is owner Rob! We've rented from VRBO more than a dozen times, and Rob is the most prepared and involved owner we've run across! He's thought of everything you could possibly thing of, and then some! Rob takes the experience to another level of pleasantness and has you leaving feeling like you've made a friend for life! Try out the Duck's Nest...very much doubt you will be disappointed! Highly Recommended!
I cannot say enough great things about the Duck's Nest and its owner, Rob. I agree with all of the excellent points and glowing comments made by other reviewers (but I will not repeat them here). Instead, I will simply say that Rob is as thoughtful on all points as an owner can be, and the flat is "just right." After a few conversations with Rob, I felt more like a friend than a customer. I cannot imagine visiting San Francisco without trying to stay at the Duck's Nest. We felt lucky to have stayed there. Perfect location, perfect accommodations, fabulous stay. Thanks for everything, and we hope to visit again!
We stayed here while attending a wedding. The location-perfect for catching a bus downtown or walking to main attractions in Golden Gate Park. Amenities-the owners have thought of everything with easy information on how to work everything from the tv to where to find items in the cupboards or closets and if you forgot anything-trust me they have extras for you to use. The property is well maintained and in a quiet residential neighborhood. Every tour book imaginable about San Francisco and the area are available for you to use, plus DVD's to watch that were made in San Fran or are about the area. My 86 year old dad loved being able to watch Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry. This was an exceptional treat for him since it is new to him that people allow you to be a guest in their home and now I don't think he would travel any other way except for this type of booking. Besides the wedding, we did a Muir Woods/Sausalito trip and visited all the typical touristy places. City Pass got everyone around town, rented a car for 2 days from the Enterprise near the rental and it fit nicely in the garage plus they picked me up and gave me a ride back. Convenient grocery store around the corner with a nice selection of organic produce and items. Do not hesitate to stay here. Rob is a great communicator if you have any questions via texting, calling or email.
We feel really lucky to have found this place to stay in San Francisco!! The owner has been so helpful from the start to ensure that we had an amazing stay by giving us many great suggestions for our trip, calling us to make sure that we had arrived safely, welcoming us with a nice gift and card upon our arrival and by making sure we had everything we needed for our stay. The Duck's nest is beautifully decorated, clean and had everything we expected and even more! We could not have picked a better place to stay in SF!
There are many positive reviews about the Ducks Nest and the amenities in the neighborhood, suffice to say there are many restaurants, bars, and grocery stores within a 5-15 minute walk, so I won't review them here. The apartment is located just north of Golden Gate Park on a quiet street/neighborhood--buses to downtown are on Fulton Street and a little further up Fulton towards Stanyan buses go through the Haight-Ashbury district--always entertaining! For you music buffs, Amoeba Records on Haight is an essential visit. If you are here for more than 2 days, it is worth picking up a MUNI Pass, which allows visitors to travel on all the SF transport systems including the cable car for an inclusive price--the pass doesn't include the BART, however. The apartment is FULLY equipped right down to spare razors and dental care products in the bathroom to all the necessities of a well-stocked kitchen, so you don't have to run around buying cooking oil, tea, coffee, salt, seasonings and so on. If you do need more kitchen, other supplies and groceries, there is a Safeway very close by--it's worth picking up a Safeway Club Card if you don't already have one. For me, however, the big story is Rob (the owner) himself--very professional and thoughtful in all our transactions--he even left a bottle of California bubble and a non-alcohol bottle of cider in the fridge as a welcome gift! Rob clearly cares for his guests as much as he does the apartment itself, which is comfortable and immaculate--the photos almost do it justice, but you need to be there to fully appreciate the quality of the experience! Rob also refunded our security deposit almost instantly after we had checked out--great service. On some of the practicalities, the garage is shared with the other tenants in the building, who were very nice, but was no problem parking a mid-size sedan--secure and convenient. It's really not necessary to drive in San Francisco, so we just left the car there and used public transit--worry-free and easy. The laundry facilities were great (and very quiet) and would be particularly helpful to a family with children. The bathroom was fully stocked with towels and a heater for those chilly San Francisco mornings. All in all, I really can't find a single negative and my guests from the UK were delighted, as were my wife and I --we were on a road trip from BC, Canada for 5 days and it was great to come to place as welcoming as the Ducks Nest!
We (4 adults) stayed 4 nights at the Duck's Nest and enjoyed every minute of our time there. The flat was very homey with a bit of old world flare, in a very quiet location. The beds were very comfy and I particularly loved the crisp cool sheets...those of us lady boomers will know what a treat that is! The bathroom was well equipped and had deliciously fluffy towels. While we did not eat in during our stay, the kitchen seemed to have everything you might need, with signs everywhere to help you out! There was a great binder there with lots of restaurant and sightseeing ideas...here are a few to add to the list. We found a great breakfast/lunch spot that we walked to around the corner (down Cabrillo St) a few blocks to Arguello Blvd (I think it was called the Sunset Grill, I'm not 100% sure, but you can't miss it). We found a great little authentic Italian restaurant called Bella on Geary Blvd. which we also walked to. It was a bit of a hike, but worth it, the food was fabulous! The other great place we went was Mexican, called Nopalito. It’s on 9th on the other side of the park, so we had to drive. Parking was a nightmare, but a really fun atmosphere with great food. The Golden Gate Park is just steps away at the top of the street and has free bus service throughout the park, all the way to the beach. We got out there, enjoyed a beach stroll and hopped back on a few hours later. The Hop-On-Off bus stops at 8th and Fulton (on Sundays) and in side the Park the other days. We got our tickets on the bus and got off there when we were done. It was really great not to have to drive down to Pier 39 to start the tour. The best part of our stay at the Nest though, had to be Rob. He was so helpful and accommodating, with wonderful communication before, during and after our trip. I just can't thank him enough for "making" our trip to San Fran! We highly recommend the Duck's Nest!
If you're looking for a great rental in San Francisco, then book this one now! To make it clear, I've included my top ten reasons for this being a great vacation place for your party. 1) The location is perfect, only 1/2 a block from Golden Gate Park, an area where you can jog, rent bicycles, ride metro to downtown, visit lakes, museums and gardens. It's a quiet neighborhood, but also close to great restaurants. 2) The owners are very personable, informative, welcoming and honest. We got an email/deposit receipt the same day we checked out! You can call or email any time with questions, etc. Never had a better experience on VRBO. 3) The house is clean, well-kept, greatly stocked with everything you could need (and MORE!) and has a really nice cozy and historic feel to it. All appliances are new and higher end. 4) The beds are the most comfortable EVER. I must admit they are better than our beds at home. My three children slept through the night each of the 7 we were there without any problems. This has never before happened to us on a vacation. The beds were so cozy with lost of extra blankets and pillows. When we got back home, they actually missed the beds and temp of the house. 5) Instructions inside home we very clear. We easily knew how to work everything in the home, even the remote controls! 6) Warm, attractive bathroom with LOTS of clean, fluffy towels. There is a special thermostat just for the bathroom which keeps it extra warm during bathing times. SO NICE! 7) Tasteful, color-coordinated decor. I enjoy seeing colors and textures that mesh well in a home and I was pleased with this one. It is very tasteful, but also make you feel comfortable. 8) Lots of reading material, movies, art and more that is San Francisco-themed. You could just sit at "home" and read up on the area for hours and hours, if you so choose. 9) The parking is easy. If you have a sedan, then there is a small parking spot in the garage. Many rentals in the area do NOT include parking. Having a parking spot is a huge bonus, as it's difficult to find parking in this city. 10) The dining room and kitchen are very roomy and have nine seats total for meals. The kids sometimes ate in the kitchen with me while I was preparing foods. I liked working in the space and found it very easy to find dishes, pots, utensils, can opener, etc. Needless to say, we had a great stay at "The Nest" and I'm sure you would too!
Based upon what we already knew from reading about the Duck's Nest, our expectations were very high. Were our expectations met- yes; exceeded - ABSOLUTELY!!We knew within a few minutes that this was not any ordinary rental. Rob goes out of his way to be sure that his visitors are comfortable and that all their needs are met. He is a master at communicating all that you need to know about the house and the city and his passion for all things related to San Francisco is contagious. The bedding, linens, appliances - EVERYTHING about this home is top notch. The location is ideal regardless of your mode of transportation - on foot, public transportation, biking, or personal vehicle. We had a car so having access to the garage was an added bonus. If you are looking for your home away from home, look no further. It's hard to imagine there is anything better out there!
We stayed 7 nights at the Ducks Nest. The first impressions were; welcoming, complete comfort and super clean! We were busy all day so it was so nice to come "home" to relaxation. We used the outdoor patio for a bar-b-que, it had everything you needed. The kitchen is so well equipped, I didn't need to bring the extra spices even. We can't say enough great things about this property. Beds were also wonderful. Truly the nicest place we've had for extended stays in SF.
This house is just simply fabulous. You feel like you are staying in a 5-star hotel with all the comforts of home. First, Rob is just fantastic- so nice, and refunds deposits and responds to emails very quickly. When you arrive, you will find a personalized welcome note from Rob. Everything in the house is of the highest quality- beds, sheets, towels, appliances, TV. Everything is taken care of- toiletries in the bathroom, cooking supplies in the pantry and fridge, and extra personal items if you forget something. A few family pictures around the house make you truly feel like you are staying with friends. As this is a second story walk-up, there are a lot of stairs- which are a bit steep to the backyard. The location couldn't be more ideal- 5 minute walk to Golden Gate Park where you can spend hours (days even!) exploring on foot. The garage parking was so convenient, especially as we never saw open-street parking while we were there. You won't be disappointed if you choose this home.
This property exceeded expectations. It is extremely well maintained and well appointed. Great location to enjoy Golden Gate Park and walking distance to Haight-Ashbury. Nice neighborhood and if you do have a car, parking is included! It was a nice home to come back to for relaxation. We ordered take out one night and watched 'Escape from Alcatraz' with a nice fire in the fireplace. Plenty of room for a family of 4 to spread out. The beds were extremely comfortable and the area is quiet at night. I would recommend this property. The owners were easy to contact and really thought of everything (including some nice sparkling wine for us and sparkling cider for the kids on arrival!). Thank you for sharing your home with us.
I will just reiterate what other reviewers have said in previous posts "LOOK NO FURTHER". Staying at the Duck's Nest made our trip exceptional. Everything about the accommodations indicate the owner is a fabulous VRBO owner. The townhouse is immaculate, safe, well appointed, spacious, and quiet. It is a hop skip and jump away from golden gate park, a grocery store, local coffee place, bike rental and fun commercial district. We only used public transportation but visiting friends could park in the space provided with the town home. My girls loved their bedroom and the stash of kid friendly games and books. As a bonus, the owner had key maps and information loaded on the home page of his computer, guidebooks, and fun San Francisco related books to browse. The champagne and sparkling cider waiting for us in the fridge was a sweet surprise. There is no question that will stay at the Duck's Nest when return to San Francisco again.
Three main reasons our family will return to the Duck's Nest and why we recommend it for you: 1) TRUST. From our initial email inquiry and throughout the process, the owner, Rob, was gracious, informative, prompt and professional. 2) HOMEY. The home itself was exactly as the photos indicate. Lovely and comfortable. Rob provides so much written information about the everyday use of the house, that any questions we might have had were answered by descriptive notes throughout the house! 3) LOCATION. Seriously awesome location. Less than a one block walk to huge Golden Gate Park and short walk to bus stops. The neighborhood is quiet but friendly. No need to bring maps or guidebooks...Rob has it all at your disposal. Want to plan our next visit already!
The Duck's Nest is five star comfort and accommodation in a welcoming and relaxed family environment that is heads and shoulders above any commercial accommodation that is available in the San Francisco. The friendly and supportive owners have thought of every eventuality in their arrangements, and having the Duck's Nest as our anchor for our adventures around town made the trip really relaxing. From towels to travel guides, everything that could possibly be needed is provided to guests, nothing is left out. And it is this attention to detail that made it so easy for us each day as we always knew that we were coming back to a welcomed respite after our days of biking, hiking, sightseeing, etc. It was just like being at home, comfortable and reassuring without any worry or trouble. Centrally located, between both of the Golden Gate Park's 8th and 10th avenue entrances, anyone who loves art, nature or science is just a few blocks from the wonderful offerings of the Golden Gate Park's museums, botanical gardens and offerings. The Duck's Nest is also central to travel throughout the city, and if you listen to the owner's suggestions and tips, there is not much needed to get anywhere aside from $2.00 for the Muni bus fee or a fun walk across town. Additionally, the residence is located on a safe, quiet neighborhood (just listen to the owners and stay shy of the Park at night. We did not encounter any problems, but you can forget basic street smarts it is so nice) and street just a short walk from the various eateries within the walking distance. We found cuisine to fit all of our group's food needs, including Middle Eastern, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Mexican, Vegetarian and more all for affordable prices and ample portions. And the single night we decided to stay in, the full kitchen made it easy to cook up a meal. Other amenities such as wireless access, flat screen TV, cable channels make it a great place for all sorts of visitors looking for a quiet place after a long day of exploring or for those who need to stay connected in between jaunts around town. All in all, it is a great place to hang out and relax, and when the trip is over you will find yourself not wanting to return home. We really appreciate the opportunity to have stayed at the Duck's Nest, and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting San Francisco in future.
We had a great vacation staying at the Duck's Nest. We always vacation in North Beach but a co-worker recommended staying here. So glad we did! The Nest is walking distance (less than a block) to Golden Gate Park and lots of restaurants. Nice neighborhood with a grocery store around the corner. The home had all the comforts and was well maintained. We will definitely be back!
We had a very comfortable and relaxing 2 weeks at the Duck's Nest. The location and photos were totally accurate--we loved having the park essentially "next door" with all the activities that provides. The restaurant at the DeYoung museum is a very pleasant and tasty place for lunch, and you can eat there without buying a ticket to the museum....although we'd recommend you do that and see the current Georgia O'Keeffe exhibit. The home was exceptionally well stocked with all the essentials and lots of beautiful fluffy towels as well as a wide variety of board games and videos. There's even a computer and printer for your use. We particularly appreciated having a garage and thus a guaranteed parking place whenever we came home--a very rare thing in SF rentals. Rob and Dianne were the perfect hosts--friendly, efficient, knowledgeable, and provided a wealth of information regarding both the home and the area.
We had a tremendous time at the Duck's Nest - Rob was an unbelievably generous host and incredibly helpful and understanding (we have 2 kids who 'moved' everything!) The location was also fantastic with probably the best park we've ever seen just across the road and all the utilities/transport links very close by. I would highly recommend the Duck's Nest especially for families who can use the amazing Golden Gate park (and handily provided guides!) It made us feel like locals and Andy's Chinese would definitely get another run!
I spent months looking online for the perfect accommodation in SF. We had an 8 night stay planned as part of a month long holiday to the US from Australia. I cannot speak highly enough of our stay at The Ducks Nest and can assure ANYONE considering a stay here: to simply BOOK IT NOW. I made the right choice. It was truly a perfect choice for our stay in every way and by far the most favorite part of our entire vacation. From the minute I touched base with Rob and Diane I knew it was going to be an excellent experience. They were friendly, efficient, informative, and truly went completely above and beyond what was expected. They even helped us plan some of our trip! When we finally arrived at The Ducks Nest we were SO excited. It was EXACTLY as the pictures depict, if not BETTER. It smelt divine when we entered, some sort of sandalwood smell or something, everything was SPOTLESS! There is not ONE thing they haven't thought of. There are even spare toothbrushes...I think I even spotted Diapers in the cupboard. You simply arrive, unpack....and feel straight at home. The washer and dryer were like Christmas to me after coming from a small hotel in LA for a week. My kids flopped down on their bed and started reading Harry Potter straight off the shelf. The beds were so comfortable, the rooms cozy and warm. Fast wireless internet and great television with lots of DVDS to watch (all SF based movies--amazing!! ) We so looked forward to coming home after a long day and relaxing in front of the fire. LOCATION for us was perfect. Muni system was so easy. Golden Gate Park a few minutes’ walk away. Local bike hire at the end of the street, half the price of the "main" companies...Very easy to get anywhere you need to go. Beautiful church not far away and Safeway a few blocks away. (loyalty card to use on the fridge...which gave us some great specials and discounts)...I could go ON and ON. I truly recommend this place for ANYONE considering a stay in SF. It will suit all ages, couples or families. Our family, husband, myself and 2 girls ( 8 and 11 ) have come home feeling like we know what it is like to "live" in this beautiful city. We felt like we were staying with family! We have vowed to return one day and keep in contact with Rob and Diana! Once again: stop looking....you have found your perfect place to stay!
What a perfect San Fran Experience!! Thanks to the detailed instructions we rode the bus everywhere! It was so easy to plan on the computer. Took the North Beach Walking and eating tour--Fabulous. I recommend the Burmese and Vietnamese fusion restaurants on Clement and the sourdough from the market 2 blocks away--so convenient. After the end of the day it was great to relax and soak up the history of the house and the attention to detail that Rob describes in his manuals. Four days was not enough. Can't wait to go back!
